Miles For Men

We’re Andy and Josh—friends, colleagues, and mental health professionals with a shared passion for supporting wellbeing and helping others. .

We are taking on the challenge of walking the famous Wainwright Coast to Coast route, travelling 197 miles from St Bees on the west coast of England to Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast. Over 15 days, we’ll cross some of the country’s most beautiful and demanding landscapes, carrying our gear and camping along the way.

Why are we doing it?

As mental health professionals, we see first-hand the importance of talking about mental health and ensuring people can access the support they need. That’s why we’re using this challenge to raise awareness of men’s mental health—a topic that still carries stigma and too often goes unspoken.

We’re also raising funds for EyUp! Charity, which supports mental health services across South West Yorkshire. Every donation will help the charity continue its vital work in improving mental health support within our local communities.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing updates from the trail, stories from our journey, and reflections on why mental health matters.

Thank you for supporting us. Whether you’re donating, sharing our page, or simply following along, you’re helping us take another step towards better mental health for everyone.

Day 14: Blakey Ridge to Grossmont

Blakey Ridge to Grossmont completed today which means there is now ONLY ONE DAY LEFT of this absolute madness. Over the last two weeks Andy and Josh have walked more than 180 miles across the country through rain, wind, hills, moors, mud, blisters and what has basically felt like every weather warning the UK has…

Day 13: Lordstones to Blakey Ridge

Andy and Josh somehow survived another day on the coast to coast walk and today’s route took them from Lordstones to Blakey Ridge… otherwise known as “the world’s wettest wind tunnel.” Honestly at this point they’re less “walkers” and more two damp hobbits roaming the moors looking for a radiator. The weather has been absolutely…

Day 12: Ingleby Cross to Lordstone

Day 12 began exactly as Days 10 and 11 ended – with the sound of rain hammering against the tent and winds doing their best to relocate the campsite to another county. It’s hard not to laugh at the timing. The country has just enjoyed a glorious week of sunshine and warm temperatures, yet somehow Andy…

Day 11: Danby Wiske to Ingleby Cross

Day 11 saw Josh and Andy complete their shortest day yet, covering 10 miles from Danby Wiske to Ingleby Cross. While the mileage may have been shorter, the conditions certainly weren’t easier. After a night of relentless rain and a thoroughly miserable morning of more of the same, pretty much everything they own is now…

Day 10: Brompton-on-Swale to Danby Wiske

Day 10 saw Andy and Josh tackle a respectable 13 miles from Brompton-on-Swale to Danby Wiske. The miles are definitely starting to add up now. In a move that can only be described as either courageous or completely lacking in self-preservation, Josh decided today was the perfect day to wear a bright red top. Given…

Day 9: Reeth to Brompton-on-swale

Day 9 of Andy and Josh’s Coast to Coast adventure marked another big step forward — over halfway there! Today’s stretch took them from Reeth to Brompton-on-Swale, covering another 13 miles of the route. It was another hilly day, with plenty of climbs to test their legs and stamina, but the rolling Yorkshire landscape made…

Day 8: Keld to Reeth

Day 8 of Andy and Josh’s Coast to Coast challenge saw the lads make their way from Keld to Reeth, clocking up 13 miles along the way. The plan was for a nice straightforward 11-mile day, but a field occupied by some rather large and intimidating bulls quickly persuaded them that an extra 2-mile detour…

Day 7: Kirkby Stephen to Keld

Day 7 of Andy and Josh’s Coast to Coast adventure saw them make the journey from Kirkby Stephen to Keld, taking on one of the tougher stretches of the route. The day started with a gruelling 5-mile climb, testing both legs and determination, before giving way to an 8-mile descent. While the downhill section offered…

Day 6: Sunbiggin to Kirkby Stephen

Day 6 began with Andy and Josh waking to the soothing sounds of nature… if your idea of soothing is torrential rain hammering the tent, thunder rumbling overhead, and floodwater attempting to relocate their campsite. The weather had clearly not received the memo that this was supposed to be a pleasant walking holiday. The discussion…

Day 5: Shap to Sunbiggin

Day 5 took Andy and Josh from Shap to Sunbiggin, a relatively short 10-mile day that somehow still felt like an expedition across the Atlantic. The rain returned. Not normal rain. Not “take a waterproof just in case” rain. Proper biblical rain. The sort of rain that makes you question whether you’re walking through the…

Day 4: Patterdale to Shap

Day 4 took Andy and Josh from Patterdale to Shap, covering 16 miles and what felt like approximately 400 miles of uphill. The day consisted mainly of climbing, more climbing, and then some additional climbing just in case their legs were feeling too comfortable. The weather was all over the place. One minute they were…

Day 3: Rosthwaite to Patterdale

Well, Day 3 certainly wasn’t one for the postcards. Andy and Josh set off from Rosthwaite this morning with determination, and reasonably dry clothes. Unfortunately, only one of those things survived the day. The weather was absolutely relentless. Torrential rain, howling winds, and enough water falling from the sky to make them question whether they…

Day 2: Ennerdale to Rosthwaite

Day Two saw Andy and Josh leave Ennerdale behind and make their way to Rosthwaite, knocking another hefty 16 miles off their total distance. The weather remained overcast but warm, creating that perfect combination where you’re not quite sure whether you are grateful for the cloud cover, or annoyed that you’re still sweating through every…

Day 1: St Bees to Ennerdale Bridge

The adventure is officially underway! Day one saw Andy and Josh set off from St Bees on the first leg of their 197-mile Coast to Coast challenge, heading for a campsite near Ennerdale Bridge—roughly 15 miles away and, thankfully, all in the right direction. After somehow surviving a night in an Airbnb that appeared to…
