Day Two saw Andy and Josh leave Ennerdale behind and make their way to Rosthwaite, knocking another hefty 16 miles off their total distance. The weather remained overcast but warm, creating that perfect combination where you’re not quite sure whether you are grateful for the cloud cover, or annoyed that you’re still sweating through every layer of clothing.

Speaking of weather, Josh is carrying the consequences of day one’s tactical error. Despite repeated warnings from pretty much everyone, he chose to shave his head before setting off and has managed to burn the top of it. Two days in and he’s already serving as a public health campaign for sun cream.

For a short while this afternoon, those of us keeping tabs on them from the comfort of our sofas were treated to a bit of unexpected drama! The iPhones ‘Find My Friends’ app appeared to show Andy and Josh a few miles apart, leading us to briefly wonder whether the first fallout of the trip had finally happened. Had the endless miles got the better of them? Had one too many discussions about the evenings food choices caused a split? Thankfully, the reality was far less exciting. Both had simply lost signal at different points on the route. Something that us whittlers at home are learning to adjust to (Yes Louise, we’re talking about you!).

The verdict on day two? In their own words: “horrific”. This route has demanded plenty from them. Long climbs, steep descents, scrambling up mountain sides and navigating rough terrain, all while carrying heavy bags that no doubt seem to gain a few extra kilograms with every passing mile.

Challenges like these are not supposed to be easy. The difficult days are what make the achievement worthwhile, and by all accounts day two has certainly qualified as one of those. 16 hard-earned miles are now behind them, and although they are probably feeling every single one of them tonight, its another major milestone reached on what is already becoming an incredible efforts.

Despite the challenge, the lads have met plenty of people along the way. Anyone who knows them won’t be surprised to hear they’ve been making conversations wherever possible. It’s easy to imagine Andy enthusiastically cornering unsuspecting walkers to discuss Kafka, existentialism and the meaning of life, while Josh somehow manages to steer every chat back to Leeds United. The Lake District paths have likely never hosted such a unique combination of topics.

Whilst today sounds like it has tested them physically and mentally, it is worth remembering why they are putting themselves through it. Every aching leg, every blister, every steep climb and every scramble is helping to support an amazing cause. Together, they have already raised an incredible £1045 so far for EyUp! Charity, and with every step they take they are helping raise awareness of men’s mental health and encouraging more conversations around a subject that affects so many people.

We can confirm they have made it safely to camp this evening and tomorrow will see them take on the walk from Rosthwaite to Patterdale. For now, they are enjoying some well deserved grub and settling down ready for Day Three!

Finally, Andy and Josh, if you are reading this tonight, wrapped up in your tents, know that everyone back home is unbelievably proud of you both. What started as a conversation in the office over a brew, has become something far bigger. When the days feel long, the bags feel heavy and the hills seem endless, remember that there are so many people cheering you on from home. People are talking about your challenge, sharing your updates and cheering for every mile completed. You’ve already achieved something remarkable, and this is only day two. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Everyone is behind you, every step of the way.

And Josh – seriously mate, get some sun cream on that head tomorrow!

Two days down, thirteen to go!
